West Street Crossing

project 15

Ararimu Village Path

The West Street crossing is currently undergoing initial site investigations to determine the most appropriate crossing facility for this location. This includes pedestrian and vehicle counts to assess usage and inform the design. Identified as a priority by the community, the crossing aims to provide a safer and more efficient way for pedestrians and active transport users to cross the road—particularly for children travelling to and from school. Improving safety and accessibility along West Street is a key focus of this project.

A 1.5 km path is being developed to improve local connectivity in Ararimu along Ararimu Road. This project is a high priority for both the Franklin Local Board and the local community, who have shown strong support and enthusiasm. Early scoping and feasibility work is underway, with community input and technical investigations helping to shape the design. Updated cost estimates and next steps will be presented to the Franklin Local Board in mid-2025. The aim is to keep momentum going and respond to the strong community backing for early progress on this important project.

Ararimu Village Path extensions and improvements

Strong community involvement has seen the development of around 1.5km of walking trails alongside Ararimu Rd (beside the community hall) which creates a safer way to get from Creamery Bridge (along Ararimu rd) to the corner of Dunn/Totara Rd. To date this has been achieved on a shoestring budget with lots of local blood sweat and tears. The community has wanted to improve this asset for all but struggled to find the funds to do so.
