Waiuku - Southern Trail - Business Park to Town Connection Path

This 940 metre project is a high priority for the Waiuku community and has been progressing steadily. Investigations and scoping have now been completed, with engagement carried out with Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua, the Waiuku community, and key stakeholders including the Waiuku Yacht Club.

The project is now at the stage where preliminary designs are ready to be presented to the Franklin Local Board for approval. If approved, the next step will be to lodge a resource consent application.

Ongoing engagement is also taking place with residents through the Waiuku Trails Committee, particularly those requiring boat access to the river.

This project is currently in the investigation phase and focuses on developing an inner path network along local streets near the Waiuku Cemetery. The path is intended to improve local connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, creating a safer and more accessible route through this part of Waiuku. Engagement has taken place with Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua to address cultural considerations, and an archaeologist is being engaged to help preserve the cultural heritage area identified through the archaeological assessment.

This project aims to deliver a central path through Waiuku, improving connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists between the town centre and Kitchener Road. The proposed route follows part of the Glenbrook Vintage Railway (GVR) corridor and will connect to James Bright Lane, forming an important link in the local path network.

Engagement has taken place with Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua, Glenbrook Vintage Railway, and the Waiuku Cosmopolitan Club to support the planning process. The project is currently in the investigation phase, with surveying underway to help confirm the path alignment.

Waiuku.

There are five paths to be upgraded in the Waiuku township, four of which are drawn from the Waiuku Trails Plan, and an additional path along Cemetery Road/Waiuku-Otaua Road, which has been included in response to requests from the community.
