Reynolds Road Crossing

project 02

Pukekohe Train Station

This project has been prioritised highly and currently undergoing pedestrian surveys and analysis on understanding the days of heavy usage. Draft options and concept plans are currently being developed by Auckland Transport. The next step for this project is the Franklin Local Board to give feedback and advice on the preferred crossing facility.

In the area near Pukekohe Train Station, two new pedestrian crossing facilities are being investigated—one on Station Road and another on Carlton Road. The project team is currently carrying out pedestrian and vehicle counts to help determine the most suitable crossing types and exact locations. These crossings have been prioritised by the Franklin Local Board and the local community to improve safety and accessibility in the area.

Paths and Trails:

The targeted rate is expanding the Pukekohe-Paerata Paths Delivery Plan to fund additional connections from Pukekohe’s growth areas to the town centre, community facilities and transport hubs through the existing road and open space network. Sections of identified ‘priority routes’ have been identified for development (refer map), which will significantly enhance and extend the existing Pukekohe path development programme and create a larger and more integrated walking and cycling network within Pukekohe and surrounding townships.

Safe Crossings:

Improving pedestrian and cyclists’ safety is an important objective, and a programme of crossing improvements will be delivered. Sites based on a combination of criteria, including user demand, crash data, vicinity to schools and town centres, road speed, the volume of cars, traffic conditions and community requests, will be prioritised for development. Improving walking and cycling safety and access at Pukekohe High School and Pukekohe Intermediate School are key goals. Additional safety features will include improved signage, surface treatments, road markings and lighting. These will work to increase the visibility of pedestrians and cyclists and create a safe environment for all road users.
